How to Buy
  1. Register. Consult the registration guidelines for more information.
  2. Finding your item. After you have registered on PhiMart, you can begin your purchases. You can either browse or search for the desired item. For your convenience, the products have been filed under categories and sub-categories. Once you have found your desired product, review the item description.
  3. Payment Methods. Carefully review the transaction terms of the item to ensure that your preferred method of payment is accepted by the seller. There are generally three payment methods: PayPal, a credit/debit card, or a check/money order. For the benefit and risks to each payment method, please consult the Safe Guardian Buyer Protection.
  4. Shipping. Carefully review the shipping costs and methods outlined by the seller. Make sure that the seller will ship to your location, especially if you are outside of the United States. It's important to remember that some sellers won't ship to buyers whose shipping address is different from the billing address. Before bidding, ask the seller any questions that you may have about payments or shipping.
  5. Buying. Depending on the type of listing, you can either bid for it, or use the Shop Now option, if available. If you have won the auction or purchased it with Shop Now, you can proceed to your shopping cart to pay for the item.
  6. Shopping cart. At the "Order Processing" page, verify your billing and shipping address. If offered, select your preferred shipping method and whether you would like to purchase shipping insurance. Select your preferred form of payment, and select "Continue". The next page will ask you to confirm the order. If everything is correct, select "Submit Order". Print out a copy of your confirmation order to keep for your records.
Methods of Payment
PhiMart has several forms of payment you may use to complete your sale. The most popular forms are PayPal, a credit or debit card, and a check or money order. Different payment methods offer different forms of buyer protection. Please consult Safe Guardian to find out which method will work for you. For your protection, PhiMart does not recommend using cash or instant money transfer, i.e. Western Union, to pay for your items. There is no proof of payment with cash or cash wire transfers, and buyers are offered no security in the event of a dispute with the seller.
Buying Through Regular Auctions (Bidding)
As the most prevalent form of purchase on PhiMart, auctions allow multiple buyers to bid for the same item. When you have found the item you wish to purchase, you can bid on it by entering the maximum price that you wish to pay. This maximum must be higher than or equal to the starting price set by the seller. The seller and other buyers will not see the price that you have entered. With automatic bidding in place, the bid is only raised when it is necessary to keep you as the highest bidder. However, if another buyer has entered a higher maximum price, they would become the highest bidder. If you are outbid, you will be notified by e-mail, and you can choose to raise your maximum bid.
Bidding with Reserve Prices
Sellers can choose to auction their item with a reserve price attached. The reserve price is the lowest price the seller is willing to sell the item for. Buyers can only see whether the reserve price has been met or not, but cannot see the actual reserve price. You may ask the seller what the reserve price is, but the seller is not obligated to disclose this information. If you bid higher than the reserve price, the auction proceeds as normal. However, if you win the auction when the reserve price has not been met, the seller is not obligated to sell the item. Sellers can lower the reserve price during the auction; all bidders will be notified by e-mail when the seller has lowered or removed the reserve price.
Buying Multiple Items in a Listing (Dutch Auctions)
In a multiple item auction, otherwise known as a Dutch auction, multiple and identical items are for sale in a single listing. For this type of auction, automatic bidding is not available. You enter the amount that you would like to pay for each item, as well as how many you would like. You can ask for just one item, or the entire lot. Winning bids are determined by the price per item. If you have won a Dutch auction but not in the quantity that you've specified, you are not obligated to make the purchase.
Buying With Shop Now
Many listings offer a Shop Now option to buyers. By using Shop Now, you avoid the bidding process and you are able to directly purchase the item. The Shop Now option is only valid when there are no bids placed on the item, or if the reserve price has not been met.
Non-Paying Buyers
When you bid on an item, you are entering yourself into a legally binding contract. If you win the item, you are obligated to complete the transaction. Before you bid, you should carefully review the terms of transaction outlined in the item description. It's important to maintain communication with the seller. In the event that you have won an auction but do not complete the transaction, the seller can leave you a negative rating and issue a strike on your account. Repeat strikes can result in the termination of your account. If you have not paid for the item yet and it has not been shipped, you can ask the seller for a cancellation for the transaction, but the seller is not obligated to comply.
Getting a Refund
Before you bid for an item, you should carefully review the seller's policy on refunds. As a third party service, PhiMart cannot compel the seller to issue a refund. However, if you have not received the item, or believe that the item is significantly different from its listing description, you may use the Dispute Center to file a dispute. If you and the seller cannot come to a resolution, contact PayPal or your credit card company. Safe Guardian can tell you more about your options based on your payment method.
Paying With Olives/eCash
Premium Sellers will reward their buyers by distributing olives. These olives may be redeemed for eCash, which can then be used toward any future purchase on PhiMart. When you view the item description, you can see how many olives you can earn for buying that particular item. 100 olives are equal to $1 eCash, and the olives can be redeemed for eCash in quantities of 2000. When you proceed to your Shopping Cart for check out, you'll have the option to use eCash toward the final price.
Charity Option
Certain items are featured with a "charity option". When you purchase these items, a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to charity. PhiMart currently works with World Vision, an organization dedicated to the well being of underprivileged children. To find out which items are featured with a charity option, look for the charity sign or browse under Phi Charities. The donated amount is displayed in the item descriptions, and is determined by the seller.
